Great question. It's a case of finding a suitable stimulus and focusing on improving function, not necessarily an increase in muscle mass. I work with a number of 90+ year olds who have noticed marked improvements in their ability to perform daily tasks (standing up, walking, etc) 😁 for some, it may be as simple as finding a chair, standing, sitting, and repeating a few times 💪🏼
Love this answer. I follow the exact same approach, sometimes it's just a matter of getting them to stand up and down. There was one client whose "resistance training" was increasing 'standing time' by 1% every session. Her quality of life improved dramatically. Just gotta meet the client where they're at.
1 gram per pound of weight is what I try to achieve.
Perfect 💪🏼
Given an old, say 80+ person with advanced sarcopenia, what, if anything, might be done to arrest the further progession of sarcopenia and disability?
